We demonstrated our knowledge of the periodic table by creating our own poster.
Today we learned about the Lewis Dot Structure and the families of the periodic table.
We were introduced to the periodic table, and the history of the scientists who developed it.
Today we used a model of the atom to discover how the structure of the atom and the periodic table are related. If you missed this class period, use the link below to build your atoms. You will only be able to build up to Neon 20, but you will get the general understanding of the concept. http://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/build-an-atom You should only need to run the simulation in order to build your atoms. The colors of the simulation are different than your worksheet, so use this key. Red-Protons Grey-Neutons Blue-Electrons Make sure that you build your chart, 1 atom at a time so that they pattern of the Periodic Table become more apparent to you.
I was not in the class today, but the class was given a video of the lesson to follow. We had two new Academic Vocabulary words, Isotopes and Ions, to add to our Glossary. The home was an extensive practive on identifying whether or not an atom was an ion or an isotope.
Today we started a new unit on the Atom. We focused on the basic atomic structure of the atom and how to read the periodic table.

Class CalendarThis is a copy of my working calendar and is HIGHLY subject to change. I include this calendar here so that you will have a good guidline as to our schedule and pace. A more updated version of the calendar will be at the front of the classroom. It will be your responsibility to refer to that calendar for more accurate information. Archives
