Hello Engineering Families,
My name is Dan Neddo and I am your student’s engineering teacher. Hopefully, we have already met, but just in case, I wanted to introduce myself.
The semester is quickly coming to an end and your students are working very hard in class. I wanted to inform you about the projects the students are working on and how I am calculating their grades. The students have several options from which they can choose. These have been explained several times in class and there are charts that explain these options online, as well. My hope for this email, is to inform you of your student’s choice and how I am calculating their grades.
The process that I have outlined for the students is that, depending on which path the student chooses, the students can pass the class with a C, B, or an A. The paths are attached to assignments and projects that will be given to them. Each path is challenging and will demonstrate to me the level of mastery that the student has achieved. Each path has been plotted out for the students giving them the scope of the work required as well as the pacing at which they should be working at. Each path has specific assignments and/or projects that the students will be completing. The paths also assume that the students have already completed all of the work/standards up to this point.
The Mastery Level Goals are as follows:

The calendar below and the pacing suggested comes from Project Lead the Way (PLTW). For the most part, students are working closely or ahead of the pace suggested. For those students who are not, they are coming in after school and during our intervention periods in order to have more time to work.
Students who are seeking an Accomplished (B) or Mastery (A) level of work in the class have already notified me of the path that they would like to be on. From these students, I am placing them into groups to begin preparing for their final projects. Please ask your student which path they have chosen as well as the work that they have before them.
My hope is that this answers some questions for you or urges you to ask other questions. The students have 7 weeks of school left which is plenty of time for them to achieve the goals that they have made for themselves. As always, if you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Dan Neddo
